About Korg iPolysix
- The world-wide best-selling Polysix polyphonic synthesizer – Korg’s Polysix, a six-voice analog polyphonic synthesizer, went on sale in 1981. While a popular synthesizer of that time was able to produce only five notes simultaneously, the Polysix had six-note polyphony, and its name was an expression of its designers’ pride. iPolysix uses Korg’s proprietary “CMT” (Component Modeling Technology) to simulate the actual electronic circuits of the original unit, perfectly reproducing the original Polysix.
- The newly developed Polyseq polyphonic step sequencer – Polyseq is a polyphonic step sequencer that provides up to 64 steps, newly developed in order to take full advantage of the Polysix’s capabilities. Polyseq provides a different operating feel than a conventional piano-roll sequencer or even a step sequencer; it’s a new yet somehow familiar experience, as if you were retracing the evolution of electronic musical instruments.
- A music production environment including two Polysix units, a drum machine, and a mixer – iPolysix has been created as a professional music production tool. In addition to two Polysix units, it provides a six-part drum machine, and an analog mixer that’s reminiscent of the KMX-8 mixer. You’ll have everything you need to produce great sounding music.
- Dual Kaoss Pads with chordal support – The large multi-touch display shows two Kaoss Pads which you can control using both hands to perform music. This enables creative performance even for those who have no musical knowledge. These Kaoss Pads have been customized for iPolysix to allow not only single-note performance, but also chordal playing with just one finger.
- Polyshare powered by SoundCloud lets you publish, share, and remix songs with iPolysix users around the world – Polyshare is a function for iPolysix users to share their songs. It’s based on SoundCloud, the song sharing service favored by music creators. You can make your song available to iPolysix users around the world simply by uploading the song directly from the app. You can download and upload remixable tracks. It’s easy to enjoy remixing and collaboration with users around the world.
Compatibility:
- iPad mini or iPad series (iPad 2 or later is recommended)
- iPolysix is a dedicated iPad app.
Korg iPolysix is available now in the app store for $14.99, (discounted price through the end of December.) An iPolysix FAQ is available at Korg’s support site.

Like the idea of these apps having a social side. Interested to know from owners of the real hardware one how it compares in sound.
well the software this was based on is amazing. just like the real thing. sounds like they’re using the same engines for the iOS version. I LOVE the polysix. I’ve been hunting for one for years. only have the poly61 at home. but it’s a lovely beast. fantastic bass.

As expected it sounds good and it is easy to use.
I guess this is all that matters for now 🙂
Looks pretty rad. Any word on whether it can send MIDI clock?
I checked out the FAQ link in the article and it mentions WIST.
Just downloaded and testing. Looks and sounds good so far.
Official PDF manual, with all the juicy details:
http://www.korguser.net/ipolysix/manual/iPolysix_OM_E1.pdf
I suspected they might release this after i saw they were working on a polysix app for the miselu neiro thing
I don’t want it to send midi clock I want it to receive it
15 euros no midi clock, no way to integrate smoothly in your DAW, lame, this is a no no
so buy the original standalone / vst version. http://www.korg.com/legacypolysix
For 15 euros / $15, I image you will get free updates which will no doubt include all the things you want. By that time, the app will probably be twice as expensive. Why not purchase now? Duh.
I will download this the moment I get home from work today!!
I love Korg apps….. among the best.
Thanks to synthopia…… I hit your site on every break at work.
The manual makes no mention of MIDI at all that I can see, but I guess that’ll be in an update – the iMS20 didn’t have MIDI on release.
Even without MIDI, it’s a KORG synth for under a tenner – with 50 drum sounds and a sequencer! Also WIST is enabled, which I really like – I can hook up the monotribe to my old iPhone with SyncKontrol and it’ll sync to my iPad.
I guess if you’re a profesional musician it’s not ideal but for pure fun value – please keep the apps and mono series coming KORG!
It supports MIDI in via the CCK. I don’t see any mention of other MIDI support, though.
Just installed it , i love it already. Works with irig midi. Try to figure out if it has midilearn
what about virtual midi? is it genome sequence-able?
Very Very Nice Move Korg 😉
If unison mode is too heavy for the processor, perhaps could add a “dual oscillator” mode, that eats half the polyphony. Please.
And polyphonic iMS-20 would also make me iJaculate.
Looks great but does this mean Korg has pushed 64-bit further down the totem pole? Cmon Korg get with it!
Look here what she can do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=KH6eiiouFjw
Killer quality
its just me or the ipad become the greatest groove-box ever?
Can anyone help me find the quarter inch jack on my I pad,?
Maybe you and I should work on finding it together, and when we find it, we can then start to search for all the knobs and switches that seem to be missing from mine…
Really liking this app! It doesn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel (it is based on a synth from the 80s after all), but I think this is Korg’s best effort so far for the iPad.
Anyone using it on an iPad 1? Apparently, it is not recommended, so I wonder if anyone has had any issues.
Opens and plays the presets on my iPad 1 just fine. I can not play along with the demo songs without getting stuttering in my lead line. I don’t know if this is just a symptom of running out of voices or processing power. I will dig a little deeper into it this week and let you know.
Very cool!
It should have MIDI even though it’s not mentionned, since in the ianalog demo we can see the guy playing on a real polysix to control the polysix app…
Worst demo track ever
Do wavestation next! It’s still a great synth.
PS: I’d pay much more than usual if MOD-7 from the Kronos got ported.
Maybe they will do an iPoly800 next. I wish I’d never sold mine!
You’re kidding! As a former Poly800 owner, that was not that fun of a synth. An iMono/Poly would be much more awesome.
Looks like they are slowly replicating the whole series of software-synth versions on the ipad. iMS-20, now iPolySix …the iWavestation cannot be far behind …I hope.

.
iHopeSo! 😉
Sounds fantastic, Yamaha and Roland take note, why not release classic synths for ipad as well.
Just installed on my retina iPad, connected to my prokeys sono via cck – what can I say, absolutely top class for a tenner. Only problem I’m going to have is the workflow with other kit – but it’ll be worth the hassle.
I hope that Korg will add audiobus support to their apps.
Currently there seems to be no way of backing up/exporting/sharing your own presets?
I hope the first update adds it – and is not Animoog style and wipes all I created today…
Now we need the AL-1 engine from Kronos and the iMono/Poly of oourse!
Happy to report that it works great with my iConnectMIDI hub. I can sequence it with Renoise and it also works with my LPK25, both direct with the CCK and through the hub.
Great synth, works fine with my apc25 via camera kit but the thing I find lacking with Korgs products is the lack of interaction with other synths and midi sequences, background audio play/ midi and especially midi learn functions, wist dosnt cut it for me as I can only afford the one iOS touch device, the lack of updates for the great sounding ims20 and the one dimension of kong kaos is a real shame oh well one can hope, love the synth as is, with background audio and midi will b a wonderful addition when audiobus Is released
And the filters? Am I the only one who really likes them?
Awesome App!!! Just get it.
I love this synth. Excellent for jamming. Excellent sound.
Sequencer has an interesting retro feel to it.
The sound is quite good. Korg are coming up with real gems for the iOS platform.
Wonderful beat ! I wish to apprentice while you amend your website, how can i subscribe for a blog web site? The account helped me a appropriate deal. I had been tiny bit acquainted of this your broadcast offered shiny clear idea
I just tried the app with iRig MIDI. My Ketron is set to ch1 for lead and ch2 for chords and the Polysix played straight away with no further adjustments to the MIDI channels, synth 2 on the left of the split and synth 1 on the right. No mention of this in the manual that I could see. I now have some lush sounds that up to now have been lacking.
I just downloaded iPolysix to my iPad2…..
The sound is amazing !! Worth every penny ! Now, Im going to find out whether can I use my Yamaha keyboard to hook up with iPolysix or not….Hope it works !
