Ableton Push Review & First Look

DJTT’s Mad Zach reviews the new Ableton Push controller for Live 9.

Ableton Push looks a lot like existing Live controllers, like the LaunchPad or APC40, but it has some unique features:

  • The pads are velocity and pressure sensitive;
  • The encoders are touch-sensitive;
  • It includes a 4-line contextual alphanumeric display;
  • A touchstrip is included for expression and navigation; and
  • It includes 24 navigation LEDs

  1. Interesting…typically I end up seperating creation and improvised performance from recording and playback performance…combining those together in one workflow is probably the holy grail of electronic music….I dunno….maybe this might be getting close. Before I found having ableton and a launchpad sort of pushed you down a specific path and sound….into something that lacked sponetanity and musicality….

  2. why isn’t ableton doing videos like this? i got a lot more interested in this device because of user videos.
    not the boring crap ableton keeps pushing out.
    no pun intended.

  3. Man I want one of these! Great vid, I love my launch pad but to have something velocity sensitive is really opening a lot of windows in the electronic game.

  4. The push looks nice, but i tend to sample with the clip launcher. it sucks because i’m sacrificing pliability and expression but until the drum rack and sampler can time stretch, this is the best way for me to work.

    I hope in a future update, ableton will allow you to use all pads to trigger sounds in a drum rack.

  5. I love you Zach! You are a natural at making quality, humble, authentic and inspiring tuts. Some of THE best on the web!!! I’m going to order the Push through you-want those pacs!!!- & DJTT. You go bruv! o-@
