This video, via Thierry Frenkel, is a demonstration of the re-developed Theremin Cello.
Here’s what Frenkel has to say about the Theremin Cello:
The Theremin Cello was another invention of the Russian physicist Leon Theremin but it was never widely known. My Italian friend Augusto Triani decided last year to give it a new life and he started building very nice housings for these instruments. I was commissioned to develop the electronic “heart” for them to give them music and a “soul”.
Today my prototype is ready and working. Although I had not yet the time to practice I wanted to do a short presentation. More to come soon!
Check it out and let us know what you think of the Theremin Cello.
*groan*…
I’m curious as to what sound generating tech he is using. Sampling or some other kind of synthesis? As an instrument, I think it is very interesting. However, traditional string players may miss having 4 separate sound generators (strings). Perhaps this will evolve towards that over time. Very interesting.
