DX7 Disasters!,ย viaย elmosexwhistle, is the fourth installment in the DEM JAMZ series, which explores the possibilities of vintage synths:
This one focuses on the much maligned and misunderstood Yamaha DX7, a synth who’s complexity and abilities few ever managed to discover, most people instead relying on it’s preset cartridge sounds, including a little electric piano patch…
It also offers a rare glimpse of hardcore ‘jazz hands’….
Tracks:
- The DX7 Song/Black Gold
- TERROR BASE
- Chant Number 3
- The Yamaha DX7 by Marc Doty, Part – The Operators
- A Disconnect
- Hurt (NI? Cover)
Love DX7 forever ๐
Well, that was different ! part gear demo and part political message. nice video too.
Awesome work. After hearing this it’s clear that Reznor must’ve used the DX7 heavily on Pretty Hate Machine.
Great work, inspirational on many levels .Thanks .
More people should use FM. It’s not all analog you know!
Great tracks! I think someone overdid the ‘Side’ processing when mastering the 1st track. I’m off to ebay now to pick up one of these babies!
Most of my most aggressive tracks were mostly done using FM synthesis and little else. FM is great fun, the only problem I have with it is that FM sounds tend to be hard to integrate with other stuff, at least harder to integrate than most classic analog timbres. It takes more effort to use FM right but when you have the time to do it, you can create some pretty amazing things.
If you like FM, you gotta go all the way – and not try to mix its power with weak, comfortable analog sounds. ๐
FM for bass sounds!
id recommend the DX200 instead… much much easier to program and get usable sounds, also has plenty of hands on control
much prefer the poly 61 to the dx7. much richer, better for bass. warmer sound overall IMO.
FM and analog are so different, you can’t suggest one over the other.
