Moog Music has released a guide to analog percussion synthesis, focusing on creating traditional analog drum sounds with the Sub Phatty.
The guide is available as a free download from the Moog site (.pdf).
Here’s a video demo they released in conjunction with the guilde:
While the patches are illustrated with the Moog Sub Phatty, similar patches are possible with other analog synths.
I want a video with 9 sub-phattys (phatties? phatti?) lined up back to back and compared with an 808 to see how close they can get it 🙂
Programming drums like this is a great way to take a break from sampletown, and even with VA’s or plugins you can get some really cool results. I love programming my nova with a drum multi!
This is why the patch presets on the sub phatty look awesome. Make a bunch of percussion presets and jam on switching it up as you play.
Ps Moog, make a drum machine!
This sounds great, but life’s too short. A drumsynth along the lines of the Ultsound DS4 would be amazing, i’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Well, that is true. But there is something wonderful about making an entire track with only one synth.
Makes me hate my LP’s lack of noise source.
