Developer Alexander Zolotov has introduced a new app, Nature – Oscillator, that lets you synthesize based on the world around you.
Nature – Oscillator uses the spectral synthesis algorithm of the Virtual ANS engine (a software simulation of the Russian synthesizer ANS) to translate the image on your iOS device’s camera into the spectrum of sound. You can also control the scanning curve: its amplitude, type and speed.
Here’s a demo of Nature – Oscillator in action:
Nature – Oscillator is available now for US $1.99 in the App Store. A Linux version is also available.
Alexander Zolotov is a true modern day pioneer of sound – genius!!
Came here to post exactly this–Virtual ANS has been an absolute revelation for me, so you’d better believe I’m getting this too.
Trippy.
holy smokes, real time image synthesis! this is fantastic!
think aphex twin/windowlicker type sounds,
metasynth too. super cool, worth the $2 if you like that sound.
ok, that’s one of the most things to play with in a long time!!! walking around the neighborhood at night…
well done app!!!
I envy your safe environment.
sorry, i wish it was the same for all of us… 🙁
See Mr. President? Russia does make stuff after all.
I agree. But to be on the safe side you should move or delete any ICBM launch codes you have on your iDevice.
I would like to see more examples….! Can it make other completely different sounds as well? Or it will not make any huge difference?
I cant believe that this type of synthesis exists…. Thanks!
Phonopaper has almost the same functionality. A great app by the same guy.
I knew who made this software just from the YouTube image preview. 🙂 OK, article name promising weird content was a good hint too. 🙂
Skulking around the forest grabbing some cool sounds with this 🙂 very cool idea!
Zolotov really is my hero. I’ve used all his apps except SunVox, and today just by co-incidence I got around to sunvox. It’s mind blowingly good. Unique design aesthetic, great support, strong vision, and best of all — good sounding. Spasiba balshoyy, Alexsander !
Although I must admit, the sounds from ANS and from this scare the living hell out me.
I look forward to the Android version. Sounds great.
Very cool app, otherworldly sounding. If you like that, then you may like this:
