For those of you out there who are familiar with blog sites like livejournal, the dilly & friendster... There's another one out there called myspace.com... This one is pretty cool in the sense that poeple who write music can turn their normal user profile in to a "band" profile, where they can submit bios, music & photos to promote their music & thair main music page...

If you'd like to check out an example of their music profiles and what they have to offer, go ahead and check out my myspace.com band profile!

This is a great way to find other artists out there on the web. Electronica, or otherwise, this is another good source for indie artists...

peace

So what do you think of myspace.com? Is it a good option for putting up some tracks?

Sure! It's a free site, so the space is quite limited. you can only put up about 4 songs or so at once. The page they give you is customizable, so you can add links to other sites you may have your music on as well.

I was talking to this girl from.... oh gosh.. I can't remember now.. but she was talking about how she used myspace to promote local bands.. said she could reliably get a good 20 people to show up an event just through myspace..

but I haven't gotten to deep into using it to promote my music yet...

insidently.. the linke to my profile on myspace is http://profiles.myspace.com/users/15191223 [url/]

the dynamics of the how the myspace community operates is pretty interesting..

My space is a very good tool to get heard. We also have picked up a good few fans form that site. TProblem is tehres a few million bands on there so dont expect to be found by an a&r guy on myspace lol It is good fror getting your music heard to a wider market without haveing to spend any money.

I'm on myspace:

http://myspace.com/noct/

If you can't add me for some reason, message me first and I'll add you.

I find that even if you find your target audience within myspace, they're still there for other reasons. Music isn't the primary concern. I wish we could have a site on the scale of Myspace that was primarily music.

We recently created a myspace page for our new Canadian newage/ambient music band: Mystic Hollow.

The link is: www.myspace.com/mystichollowmusic

Please check it out - it has free downloads and a video. There is so much you can do on myspace to get your music out there!

Any comments on the page or the music are welcome - either by responding in this forum, or by e-mailing mystichollow@gmail.com

Cheers,

Lorne (keyboard player)

There is, almost. Have you been to Virb yet? It's getting there... if nothing else, it's more music/art-centric than myspace is.

Not that i personally have stopped using myspace... hard to complain about it as it's given me a good amount of gigs and release opportunities.

vir8 looks interesting - but there's getting to be too many of these sites to keep track of, don't you think?
