Behringer Model D Update Could Make You Want Several

Behringer has released a firmware update for its Model D Eurorack synthesizer, adding new options for polychaining several of the synths together and more.

Here’s what’s new in Behringer Model D firmware 1.1.0:

  • New Synth Tool app for easier configuration of the MODEL D via the USB input.
  • Added new Mac OS support.
  • Improved the Poly Chain function to make it easier to setup and use.
  • Improved re-trigger reliability when playing with legato notes.

Behringer documentation for the update (pdf) outlines several ways multiple Model D’s can be used:

The update is a free download from the Behringer site.

  1. hmm… maybe good idea for Behr to make a satellite module to expand polyphony without any knobs, just with usb midi and audio in (for original 1 voice ) and audio out.

    1. It’s a nice idea but not possible because the controls aren’t digitally read or otherwise multiplexed. The main unit would require significant modification. As it is, if you want to use several like a polysynth you need to set up the same patch on all of them.

Besides, it’s 300 bucks. A knobless module wouldn’t likely be much cheaper.

  2. I predict that within 5 years 90% of the Earth’s surface will be Model D’s polychained together. We’ll shelter under them, drive on them, work around them. It will begin a new chapter for humanity and our journey on this planet.

  3. Compared to the recently announced Novation Peak update this update is hardly news worthy. I consider this update a bugfix mostly. And poly chaining on the D is an illusion, as none of the parameters is automated. It’s a nice gimmick that you would try once, but can never use in live performance or busy studio schedule. Polychain is much more relevant to units like the Roland SE02, where you can recall a complete patch.

    1. bugfix lmao.
wtf does polychaining has to do with automation ffs.
yeh polychained model d is unusable. jesus the crap i read in these comments.

  4. So to match the ~$500 minilogue’s four voices, it’ll cost you about $1200? At that price you could get a DSI prophet rev 2 module – 8 voices and a vastly higher quality instrument (model d tuning issues, for example). Even polychaining two of these makes no sense.

    1. 1: “Match the minilogue”
Why would anyone ever compare the Minilogue to a BMD?

      2: “vastly higher quality instrument”
If anything Korg cut heavily on quality with the Minilogue.

3: Did you even try the update to see which problems got fixed with the BMD?

Haters will be haters. I got 3 more BMD’s and a eurorack suitcase coming next month. 😀

Thanks Behringer! Can’t wait for the 808, 909, Pro One, Jupiter and more to come out in the near future.
One request if someone from Behringer is watching over us… I would really really really like a Juno-60!!!

  5. How quickly could someone replicate a patch that’s one one to another 2 or even 3 of these? Less than a minute I would think. 3 oscillators, one VCF, 2 envelopes. It’s not excatly hard. Get to know your instrument guys. What’s the issue?
