In his latest video, synthesist Omri Cohen takes a look at developer Don Turnock’s Odyssey for VCV Rack, the free, multi-platform software modular synthesizer.
Turnock describes Odyssey for VCV Rack as ‘an Arp Odyssey on steroids’.
“In this video, I go through all of its features, and I take a closer look at how this module works,” notes Cohen. “It’s a great sounding synth, very CPU efficient, and it’s available for free.”
It’s available as a free download, in versions for Linux, Mac & Windows.
this sounds nothing like a oddy
Who cares? It doesn’t claim to be a virtual Oddy and there are already a half-dozen software Oddys.
It’s a new design that takes inspiration from the original Odyssey – so the question is whether it’s a useful new synth.
it doesn’t claim to be a virtual Odyssey? lol are you serious? what about the name and panel layout?
Nothing like an oddy, where are the sync leads sounds? Nothing new as a software synth at all. It is not cool or useful! At least take the reverb off…
A FREE SOFT SYNTH THAT ISNT PERFECT FOR ME, COOL OR PERSONALLY USEFUL, HOW DARE THEY!!
I found it to make some really interesting sequences and timbres. But I fancy myself a “sound designer” so I don’t get bummed out when something doesn’t make a known standard sound from my first few minutes of use or from some YT vid.
After a few brief tests, using external modulation, a few effects such as light delay etc.. I was able to get some really great things from it.
Its a free color for our pallet of audio paints.
