At Knobcon 2019, Modal Electronics introduced the Argon8 – a new wavetable synthesizer that builds on the legacy of the $4,495 Modal 02.
We talked with Jackson from Modal, who gave us an in-depth look at the new Argon8 synthesizer.
The Argon8 offers much of the sound design capability and functionality of the Modal 002 – offering deep synthesis capabilities, a sturdy metal case, a full-size keyboard with velocity and aftertouch and more for $699.
Pricing and Availability
The Modal Argon8 will be available later this year for 699/£579/€649.
Its giving me Prophet VS kind of vibes, especially when compared to the Hydra’s sonic quality.
I’m hearing some great sounds, too. Reminds me of 80’s Tangerine Dream sounds a bit.
Its like a DX 7 on Steroids
A perfect description !
Love it from what I’ve seen so far. Let’s hear some dreamy evolving pads though, eh?
Awesome demo and overview… looks and sounds seriously awesome !
i always preferred wavetable synths for pads and atmospheres and drones and weirdo sfx, etc.
analog is more like “meat and potatoes” or “bread and butter” kind of sound IMHO
I’m hoping that joystick can be used for vectoring,it has the potential.
On a different note, I noticed today that Sweetwater is taking orders for a new Behringer synth called the K-2 Semi-Modular. It looks to be an MS-20 clone with additional features.
Hello Sweetwater employee. Don´t see why this is relevant to the article?
This looks like a very solid instrument for the price. Best of all, it should complement analog instruments extremely well. Back in the Paleozoic Era, you could do entire studio projects with a Jupiter 8, PPG Wave 2.X and whatever sampler you could best afford with the remainder of your record company advance.
The Argon8 sounds like a decent fill-in for the PPG in a modern rig.
It seems like hardware and performance controls for digital synths are evolving by leaps and bounds, but analog synths are kind of devolving towards cheap clones.
This is going to be way easier to use and be more powerful than vintage wavetable gear. But when you look at where analog is heading, it seems like market is getting swamped with tiny versions of classic analog synths, instead of amazingly powerful uber-analogs.
