In this video, synthesist Richard García takes a look at the synths of Mike Oldfield.
Oldfield is best known for his guitar playing, but throughout his career, he’s also made interesting use of synths and electronic music technology.
The video starts with an introduction in Spanish, but the rest of the video features musical examples, which should be clear to anyone.
Synths discussed include:
- Roland Vocoder Plus VP-330
- ARP Solina String Ensemble
- Roland SH-2000
- Ensoniq SD-1
- Roland JD-800
- Roland JD-990
- Korg M1
- Roland D50
Interesting indeed. Worth mentioning Mike Oldfield also used a lot of Fairlight, for instance in Crises.
Foreign Affair is such a great track!
However, Mike Oldfield’s excels on guitars. Many of his numbers are flavored with accoustic and electric guitars on the front. Add the wonderful voice of Maggie Reilly and magic happends. Magic Mike :)>
I’m playing keys myself but i realy love the way Mike Oldfield uses guitars for his music.

You can use HTTPS if you want, but we do not currently force you to use it. We’re considering defaulting to that, though, because it can confuse people.
As long as I don’t have to deal with captchas, I don’t care.
