Sunday Synth Jam: In this video, José Luis Amores performs Nocturno, a piece for felt piano and Fates, a DIY version of the open source Monome Norns music computer.

The Wikipedia says that a Nocturne is: “usually a musical composition that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night. (…) The name nocturne was first applied to pieces in the 18th century, when it indicated an ensemble piece in several movements, normally played for an evening party and then laid aside. (…) Nocturnes are generally thought of as being tranquil, often expressive and lyrical, and sometimes rather gloomy”.

At home, in the loneliness of the night, I play it and it seems to me as if the music was part of the landscape, as if it were not something strange but rather part of the dark night, as if that music was already there from before and you only had to turn up the volume dial to listen to it. I should have recorded this at night, I know, but with my video equipment I wouldn’t have a decent night recording.
