This video captures a track, Orion, by synthesist Claus Gahrn, created with a generative patch on a Moog Mother-32.
Orion is a creative example of getting a lot out of a minimal setup – in this case a Moog Mother-32 patch, sent through the free reverb Valhalla Supermassive.
Here’s what Gahrn shared about the patch:
Assign (set to Step Random) — Mult
Mult 1 — Mix 1
Mult 2 — VCO Mod
KB — Mix 2
VC Mix — VCF Cutoff
LFO Tri — VCF Res
VCO Saw — Ext. Audio
32 note sequence. Sequence playback direction is set to random.
I presume this could be emulated on a behringer crave?
Simply gorgeous work on this !
This patch certainly unlocks M32’s vast expressiveness.
Claus, your piece is a fine example of what you can get from simply diving into your synth a little deeper. Generative can become aimless easily, but this audio travelogue unfolds in a more orderly fashion. I let it repeat several times while I went about my business. It shows off the voice of the M32 beyond the usual, more easily identified Moog standbys. Well done.
Supermassive is a great reverb. I bought some other Valhalla effects when I took it on. Its becoming a good go-to rack. There are many, many good FX coders around, but they’re in my Top 10.
Excellent work.
I love to see somebody jam with a giant wall of synths, but am always amazed when someone makes something so beautiful out of almost nothing.
very lovely, now I gotta try it out! Thanks for making this video and sharing the info!
