Tsugi Studio has introduced DSP Action, a unique sound design tool designed to let you create dynamic sound effects by drawing them with a mouse or a graphic tablet.
DSP Action is based on a a procedural audio engine, so you customize sounds and then animate them to meet your needs.
Here’s what they have to say about it:
“From the sounds of destruction (impacts, crashes, debris…) and fight (punches, gunshots, explosions…) to mechanisms (giant robots, gears, engines…) and powerful synths (screeching sounds, risers, braams…), everything needed to create high-octane teasers, action-packed games, and thrilling animations is just one click away.
The workflow is immediate: select a type of action (e.g., hit, break, scrape), a sound generator (e.g., metal, synth, engine), and simply draw your sound effect! While drawing, the position and speed of the mouse (or stylus) are evaluated to generate a sound that perfectly matches your movements.
In addition, interactions with graphic triggers allow for the creation of an infinity of sound variations. Crossing lines and entering shapes while drawing will start new sounds or transform existing ones.”
Pricing and Availability:
DSP Action is available now for US $49 (EUR 36, GBP 29).
The website info – “windows only”
🙁
I have their DSP Motion, and it’s absolutely fantastic. The most fun I had in a long time designing sounds. Will probably grab that one as well, as it seems even more powerful.
Decided to put it on one of my windows laptops. As a sound design tool the demos convinced me how cool the possibilities were. Had a download issue and contacted support. Within minutes I got a response and then a follow up from Miki Hoshino telling me that the download file got renamed somehow and gave me a fix it. Renamed the original file and everything worked fine. Awesome customer support and thanks again to Miki.
Have been playing around with it and it is very cool. So many sonic possibilities and just fun to use.
I read a similar story here or on another forum. It seems they replied to the guy within minutes, and with a solution. Japanese service is no joke 😉
Just got it, and it’s easily the most inspiring sound design tool I bought in a while. I’m pretty sure there was a smile on my face the whole time I was using it. And yes, I agree, DSP Motion was already pure awesomeness.
Who uses windows anyway???
I don’t know, pretty much everybody in game development, which is their main target? Also Windows has something like a 90% market share. Sure there are some artists / creators in that, including me 😉
Good for you!But i dont know what market share you referring but Windows 90% market share on OS is total BS if that’s what you saying?
This was a ball in the park figure, which is why I used “something like”, but if you consider gaming (and game development) as I mentioned, it seems it is even more (see below). I am not sure where you are based, but there are a lot of markets where Macs are just too expensive to get any traction.
In any case, “who use windows anyway?” -> a lot of people!
from this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems
“In the area of desktop and laptop computers, Microsoft Windows is the most commonly installed OS, at approximately between 74% (based on web use) and 97.03% (based on use for gaming) globally.[2] Apple’s macOS accounts for approximately 9.6–13%, Google’s Chrome OS is up to 6% (in the US) and other Linux distributions are at around 2%.”
Looks & sounds amazing – I wish there was a musical synth that looked that good and was that interactive to use!
My first thought was “What a great partner for Sugar Bytes plug Turnado.” Its eight effects in one unified form. You can get a lot done with just three or four mainstays like that.
This does read like a gaming tool, but its soundtrack uses & general punchiness are equally impressive. It’ll especially please people who do mixdowns or post-production on tight deadlines.
Been mainly making all kinds of hits and rhythmic loops from tweaking and then chopping up stuff from the presets, so much sonic fun. I love Turnado so will definitely get it involved in the sandbox.
MAC PLEASE!
this is really cool and would be super useful.
^BUMP
Would love to try this on an iPad!!!!
Commodore 64, please
