New Virtual Instrument, Abbey Road Two: Iconic Strings, Features ‘The Most Famous String Sound In The World’

Spitfire Audio has introduced Abbey Road Two: Iconic Strings, a follow up to Abbey Road One: Film Scoring Selection that they say features “The most famous string sound in the world”.

The virtual instrument features five of the world’s best string players, recorded by Grammy Award-winning engineer Sam Okell (The Beatles – Remastered), recorded in Abbey Road’s Studio Two, using the same recording gear used in sessions for The Beatles.

“This is the most famous string sound in the world,” says Spitfire Audio co-founder Paul Thomson. “It will be cemented in your subconscious with the sound of The Beatles’ hit ‘Eleanor Rigby’, but also other Sixties classics that were recorded in Abbey Road Studio Two.”

Here’s the official video walkthrough:

You can choose to go for the really vibey sound or a very clean — maybe more austere — sound, according to the type of thing that you’re writing,” notes Thomson. “It’s just so exciting to use, and I really hope that you’re going to enjoy using this one a lot.”

Pricing and Availability

Abbey Road Two: Iconic Strings is available now, with an intro price of £199.00 GBP (inc. VAT)/$229.00 USD/€229.00 EUR (inc. VAT) through January 6, 2022 (normally £249.00 GBP (inc. VAT)/$299.00 USD/€299.00 EUR (inc. VAT).

  1. How can they claim that it’s the “most famous strings sound in the world”? They’re not using the same instruments and players are they? Seems odd to say this based on the room and the recording equipment. Surely it’s a combination of all factors but especially the instrument and player?
