A Complete Guide To The Behringer Neutron Synthesizer

This pair of videos offer a complete, in-depth guide to the Behringer Neutron semi-modular synthesizer.

The Behringer Neutron is a dual-oscillator, semi-modular analog synthesizer of original design. It features internal normalization, so it can be used without any patching, but offers a matrix of patch points on its right side, so you can override the internal signal flow.

The first video, above, covers each aspect of the Neutron, including its oscillators, sync, paraphonic, filters, LFO, envelopes, envelopes, sample &hold, Slew rate limiter and attenuator.

Topics covered:

  1. There is much fuss about the vast number of new synths that Behringer is promising in the future. However, the Neutron, which you can buy right now, and has been on offer for several years, is sadly overlooked. It is the most interesting and best-sounding of their semi-modular offerings, thus far.

  2. Hey Synthopians. I am the author of this videos. Hope you like them and I am glad to help. If you have any questions or doubts, shoot. No such thing as a silly question, so feel free.

    1. Thanks for making the video and also for responding to reader comments! Your video highlights how the Neutron is exceptional within Behringer’s synth line.

  3. Yet another mono synth… yawn…
And it’s not yet another Behringer hate post as well, but…
Still waiting for 128 voice polyphonic synth, with at least 8 part multi on 8 separate midi channels in compact rack or desktop version…
Oh wait, these type of synths did exist 15 years ago…
    Back to software synths than…

    1. this comment is odd. you do realize this is just someone taking some of their own time to create a guide for some 4 year old gear for other users, right?

    2. Hey, I love VST’s, have a lot of them and use them a lot. But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate a good hardware. It is not about just sound, It is also about how you connect, personal & creative with the thing that makes the sound. If you go to my channel, I have a whole series talking about software synths.

These are just tools, nothing else…doesn’t matter if the tool is hardware of Software. Choose whatever that get you started / inspired and get going. No need to hate something because you don’t use it, it makes no sense.

  4. I really liked your 2 videos!!! I’ve had my Neutron since it came out. I learned a thing or two from your videos!!!
The Neuton pairs well with my modular setup, and my 2600.

Thank you so much for your work on these 2 videos. Wealth of information for new comers and for those who had the Neutron for awhile!

    1. Thanks man, I’ve noticed a lot of people have the Neutron but they just couldn’t get it going. The synth has a lot of faces and the manual is not very good. Had a lot of requests for this one.

So yeah, the idea was to create something anyone can follow and understand to know their gear. I guess, I did a good job. Thanks for the comment, it helps.

  5. Excellent videos. I am looking forward to your k2 video(s). Although I love this synth I feel am not fully utilizing what it can do. Thanks.

  6. This came up in my Google news feed and admittedly I need to look at the videos. However, I recently purchased the Neutron as my 3rd Behringer monophonic synth after the Model D and the 2600. What attracted me to the Neutron was the patch bay and the sonic possibilities of interconnecting it with my other synths for some original and creative sounds. My initial impression is that the Neutron has a voice of its own that I really enjoy playing with.

I have much to learn and I look forward to watching the videos. I feel as if Behringer has finally brought what has always been my favorite aspect of synthesis back to the mainstream at a reasonable price. Having owned a Jupiter-8 that I wish I had back, a Juno-60 that needs a rebuild, an SH-101 that originally cost me a whopping $75, and an Oberheim Two Voice this new generation of analog synthesizers has a lot to offer to someone like me who has never passed the semi-pro level but enjoys making noise for the pure enjoyment of it.

  7. hello, thanks fort the tutorial. it helped me to play with the neutron. it has given me lots of new options. I am seeing the video many times now. and i am stil learning

  8. Hi Fer Xnb! Thank you so much for these tutorials. These are not just a complete –and enjoyable– guide to the Behringer Neutron but a full analog synthesis masterclass!
