Youtube user TheHappyWombat shared this short demo of their DIY Omnichord-inspired MIDI controller.
“With Omnichords being as hard to come by as they are where I am, I figured I should just make one,” they note. “I decided to try make the control layout simpler and more intuitive.”
The controller has a 12-note keyboard at the top for selecting the root note, and 10 keys in the middle for selecting the type of chord. You play the instrument by selecting the root note and chord quality with your left hand, and then strumming with your right hand.
The chord selection is latched, so you don’t need to hold the buttons down.
This is currently in development. Future plans include battery power and a display to show the selected chord.
Cool!
Zither
They should kickstart this one
Would buy ? Would love more range on the “strumming strips” though!
