Music software developer Tone2 has announced that the recently released and then pulled Behringer Vintage software synth, above, is not an official copy of Tone2 Saurus synthesizer, below:
Some synthesists had noted similarities between the two designs. Here’s what Tone2 had to say about the situation:
“The look of the recently released Behringer Vintage has caused confusion among our customers. Behringer Vintage is NOT a new version of Tone2 Saurus or related to it. Both products have a different synthesis architecture and sound different.
We are not involved in the development of Behringer Vintage.
We are not responsible for the graphics, the sound engine, or anything else related to it. Behringer has not licensed graphics or source codes from us. We do not collaborate with Behringer in any way.”
Behringer has pulled the new synth, which was available for a short time as a free download, with the company encouraging downloaders to support the Playing for Change Foundation.
Saurus is available via the Tone2 site.
I’m used to them announcing things that don’t appear for years. This is the first time an actual release emitted a sucking sound and disappeared. Strange business model!
Having a Behringer in the studio at this point is like having leprosy.
Its disgusting.
This company is the epitome of nastiness.
They cannot help themselves – it is the only kleptomaniac company in the music space.
They would even copy from the most generic and boring company – its insane.
I had a headphone amp by Behringer – I had to throw it away so it doesn’t infect my other gear.
can i have the headphone amp ?
Not a fan of behringer but this premise is a stretch everyone makes similar vsti’s but if behringer is coping anyone here it’s dsi like pretty much every other vst company before ,artiria have an entire range of copied vsti’s, but no one moans about that they just bully beringer for clicks when i can think of reasons to criticise all the big producers (except for korg because they rock) but its getting old ,but yes this vst is clearly similar to hundreds of others in a crowded market place
AFAIK they literally cloned Ableton’s Analog synth…
How Dare Tone 2 copy Behringer like that!
the UI looks incredibly similar to Ableton’s Analog instrument
Yea, I’m not seeing any unreasonable similarities. Would be curious to know why it was pulled. We may never know.
The whole thing was started by an offhand comment at synthanotomy where the author noted there was some similarities which as far as most folks can see is the use of the color blue. It feels like this got blown a bit out of proportion.
I dont think they look similar at all.
seems like a good bit of hype marketing for tone2 and behringer
And Tone2 getting into the fray look like fools.
Seems Behringer went to the assets folder of the Saurus and took the knobs and skeuomorphist led blue screen. Weird choices but thats Behringer GUI design for you. The rest aint the same.
Seems Tone2 is just making a ruckus to raise awareness of their Icarus3 vst.
