thanks for the tutorial, it's helpful. FYI, I think I know why the note lengths change (as you mentioned in part II). It looks like moving one note stretches the surrounding notes to make sure they don't overlap. Basically like warp markers in audio

Great tutorial first of all. Groove and Swing are 2 essential aspects to adding that human element to our songs. We run a song mastering service and often advice our clients to make use of these 2 important elements before sending their tracks over.
One other cool feature not mentioned here is that you can actually extract the groove from some of your favorite tracks. We use this feature all the time.
