What’s Waldorf teasing?
Today, Waldorf shared a brief teaser video, featuring only the image of a vintage Microwave synthesizer.
The Waldorf Microwave, introduced in 1989, is an analog/digital hybrid synthesizer, featuring wavetable oscillators paired with an analog VCF and VCA.
No official announcement has been made, so we’ll have to wait and see what they are introducing. In the meantime, let us know what you think is coming in the comments!
I suspect they’ve taken the soundmaking guts of the Waldorf M and stuffed them into a 19″ rack with a simplified front panel that looks like the old Microwave.
I suspect you’re probably right. Do you think they would restrict it to a single voice?
this would get me hot, people rarely make 19″ racks these days
If they retained four-part multitimbrality (or increased it) I’d buy two in a heartbeat.
What if it’s just a plugin…
It is… It literally looks like one.
I doubt they would emphasize their distinctive red alpha dial in the teaser if it was a softsynth.
that’s the hallmark of VST’s – imaginary hardware pictures. the dial would be ideal bait. it worked for Synclavier – at least they *had* a knob for it.
Definitely is 😉

…and wouldn’t you know who won the pony! ^^
It’s a plugin, folks!
If this is hardware microwave successor, isn’t this largely irrelevant in a world with the M and the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave?
What about a vst plugin emulating the Microwave but also able to edit sounds on the actual hardware version ? That could be thick oil !!
That Would be so cool and it is the reason i own Two Novation A-stations because the V-station plugin is so good.
Waldorf M Keyboard?
Don’t forget, that they’ve been teasing this since 2021:

That teaser was for the Waldorf M. It’s literally a knob on its front panel.
blofeld form factor mwave
Clearly a Waldorf salad.

???Indeed!…..the red thingy is a slice of tomato!? ??
Which Bond character hasn’t yet been named in a Waldorf synth? This is the ‘Moneypenny’: Waldorf is going to take your money, and leave you with pennies 😀
seems odd they would not use the XT model to advertise this nostalgia
They’re going to try selling the ROM files necessary to make the Vavra and Xenia VSTs work.
Honestly, I’d totally support this given it’s fairly priced. Even better if they fix some of the existing bugs in the firmware. There’s many people that are going to end up “pirating” the firmware because they don’t own the original hardware versions that would probably throw some money Waldorfs way.
Update the Blofeld format
This is definitely a Microwave plugin. A demonstration video was posted to Facebook last night (18 August) and then quickly retracted.
