Cherry Audio Intros Atomika “Soviet Synthesizer On Steroids”

Cherry Audio has introduced Atomika, based on the Soviet-era Polivoks synthesizer, for Mac & Windows.

Atomika is a software emulation of the rare Polivoks synthesizer, which was at the Formanta Radio Factory between 1982 and 1990. In addition to using circuit-level modeling to recreate the original’s sound, Atomika expands on the original’s capabilities with new filter options, full polyphony, an arpeggiator, integrated studio-quality effects, and more.

Atomika retains the iconic Polivoks filter and adds new controls and expanded filter modes, including highpass, notch, and peak responses. Atomika also epxands on the original with enhanced polyphony, expanding from duophonic to a robust 16-voice polyphony. It adds unison oscillator stacking, an expanded LFO with more waveforms, and comprehensive performance controls, including velocity, tracking, aftertouch, and pitch and mod wheel response.

More new features are found behind Atomika’s second panel, which includes an arpeggiator and four studio-quality effects — Phasor, Flange/Chorus, Echo, and Reverb — with a dedicated effects LFO for expanded parameter modulation.

  1. Must never forget that nothing digital can ever sound completely analog. That’s physics. Don’t argue. If you want inexpensive actual Polivoks sound, get a Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1 Polivoks (analog filter) or TubeOhm Phoenix for the new version.

  2. I’ve got a vintage Polivox here – not only does the CA Atomika sound spot-on like the original, the polyphonic sounds are top notch – really different and interesting in their own right, almost GX-like? And the interface is refreshing in its simplicity…what a pleasure. Well done, Mark Barton and Cherry Audio!:)
