Synthesist Midera shared this live performance, Another World, featuring the slowly evolving sounds of the classic Sequential Prophet VS synthesizer.
Here’s what Midera shared about the technical details:
Strymon Volante for delay
Valhalla Supermassive for reverb
Sequential Prophet VS for sound
Nice, it seems to me though, that 90% of that sound is the fx-chain after the synth.
Kind of ironic, isn’t it? All these pedantic online discussions about the sound of synths is such a waste of time and effort, because the sound we love has a lot more to do with the unsung sauce synths were soaked in, than the magic pixie components praised to high heaven these days.
yup, that why i started with Lexicon, Eventide, and Kurzweil; literally everything sounds great through them. lol.
Raw synths can sound pretty boring, unless they have semi-unique powers like a Chroma. In a DAW, you can build an FX chain capable of making a VL-Tone sound like a GX-1.
The VS was the first synth that allowed you to mix oscillators like that. It set a nice standard that now appears in a fair number of instruments. You can even send an LFO to rotate all kinds of things. The VS touch sensing crapped out too easily, which surely sent a few people to the rack version.
