Teenage Engineering today introduced the OP-XY, a new portable instrument that features a powerful sequencer, synthesizer, and sampler.
It’s a little bit like an OP-Z on steroids. Here’s what they have to say about it:
“we know you’ve had wet fantasies about a no-compromise, dual-cpu boosted and fully rebuilt sequencer, sampler, and performance instrument, based on the much-loved workflow of the OP–Z.
now including built-in cv, effect sends, and a best-in-class dac. with 8 individual instrument tracks and 8 auxiliary tracks for controlling any external synthesizer, modular or otherwise, and adding effects. we dare to say it’s probably the most complete, portable sequencer ever built.
it’s here. it’s real. it’s black. and it’s got so much more than you’ve wished for.”
The basic form factor is the same as the OP-1 field, but the focus of the OP-XY is on ‘serious sequencing’.

Pricing and Availability:
The Teenage Engineering OP-XY is available now for $2,299 USD.
maybe if im a verrrryyyy good girl my wife will get me one ;-:
absolutely not, much no. fourfold price hike over op-z. op-1F was twofold. Might have gone for it if op-xy were twofold, but this is ableton push plus suite territory, *plus* an op-z. nonreplaceable battery does not help either.
This is made for people who commute. You can scratch the itch and do it all neatly in one box.
But in the studio for real jamming, live sequencing…. This has nothing to offer but handicapping you into looking through a straw. Cirklon would be a better investment.
Everybody loves a built-in mic and speaker…
The only people that will end up with one of these are the Youtube shills who get them for free lol.
Every electronic music gear manufacturer makes high-end gear for professionals, and it makes hobbyists brains explodes.
There are people whose time is more valuable than the money, and they buy whatever they think will be useful.
It’s been this way forever.
So this expensive toy-box is a high-end for professionals. Ok
Clearly you don’t understand what it is tho ?
I buy quite a bit of higher end gear, this is not about how high the price is, but what you get for it. It makes no sense for just about anyone, considering similar products out there.
As nice as 8GB of sample memory sounds on paper, I won’t pay $2300 for it.
The video is AI or made to look AI (see Super Panavision on YouTube).
$799 ok
$999 still acceptable for the TE fans
$2300 you were taken for a fool $1300 ago
An absolute beauty. Hard (ok, impossible) for me to justify at the price but as an “only instrument you have on a desert island” instrument? Yes, please.
Don’t be mad at TE; be mad at your salary/boss/economic system/parents/past decisions/whatever. They ask for what feels like ‘a lot’ for their instruments but 1) so does rolex/bmw/etc and 2) it’s not like they’re gauging thirsty people for a jug of water.
