NAMM: Alesis introduced the Q49 USB MIDI keyboard controller – a minimal controller that offers USB-MIDI and traditional MIDI jacks for connection to Mac, PC and MIDI hardware.
Features:
- 49-key keyboard controller for use with virtually all music software and MIDI devices.
- USB-MIDI and traditional MIDI jacks for connection to Mac, PC and MIDI hardware.
- Pitch and modulation wheels, octave up and down buttons, assignable data slider.
- Send program changes from keys.
Not a lot of “wow” factor on the Alesis Q49. If they price it right, though, it might be just the thing for some people.
The Q49 will be available from musical instrument and pro audio retailers in March 2010. Pricing is TBA.

Exactly. Its a slightly better-looking Alesis version of the existing KeyRig 49. No way should they get away with charging a penny more for it. However, there are relatively few choices for inexpensive basic controllers with conventional MIDI output now, so it is still a useful device.
the M-Audio does not have a 5-pin MIDI out jack. You cannot use it with MIDI hardware. I have been looking for something like this for a long time.
Mebbe check out the M-Audio Keystation 49i – around $250.00. USB/MIDI/Audio, but have to check out more reviews and test key size and keyboard action for suitability but it’s my front-runner so far to replace my vintage 76-key Korg T2ex workstation which takes up way too much space.
The Q49 is worthless. My Roland PC-300 works with everything. The Q49 does not work with Cubase SE or Logic 8 on a iMac G5 running 10.4.11. I can physically play and trigger the sounds. But when the sequence is played back, it doesn't trigger what I have played. Yes, I've check all of my Midi settings, hardware and software.
