The Orb’s first album had a new, distinctive sound when it came out. It mixed ambient music with downtempo grooves, to create a pop ambient style that has since moved to the mainstream.

This music is perfect chill-out music. The slow grooves make it easier listening for mainstream electronica fans, but the bizarre mix of samples helps create some tension and interest. The Orb’s Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld also has a much more psychedelic feel than most other ambient music. On cuts like “Back Side of the Moon”, you can hear the influence of seventies psychedlie rock music. Titles like “A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Center Of The Ultraworld” give you an idea of the trippy music’s sound.

The two-CD set has a lot of great cuts. The hit “Little Fluffy Clouds” features low-key synth backgrounds, with the sampled voice of Rickie Lee Jones layed over the top. “Perpetual Dawn” has a great vibe, a little bit techno and a little reggae.
