  1. This is one of those plugins which triggered the "Holy shit!" response from me. The sound is really refreshing and complete. And can bring up quite some punchy surprises; not going into further detail because quite frankly the movie gives a very good demonstration. When looking / listening to the movie remember this: the effects often sound more complex than they really are with StringTheory.

The part I will comment on is its easy installation. Wonderful stuff; just unpack the archive, copy or move the .dll file, presets and optionally its pdf manual (or simply everything in the stringtheory directory) and you're good to go.

Using Live suite as my DAW which also has some very good "string synth" like Collision and also some nice "string sound capable synths" like Operator (and perhaps Sampler) but even so; this one should be a very fine addition to the flock.

Remember: it never hurts to use different approaches for the same (kind) of sound, that alone is likely to give your work that extra "diversity". "Overspecialize, and you breed in weakness", is my favorite motto here.

  3. This is a nice piece of work. I use Logic Studio, which includes Sculpture, a much superior modeling synth that will do not only rich strings, but some serious bells, pads and exotic events. OTOH, you can only get it in the complete $500 suite. This would be a great synth for $100-150, but as freeware, its a serious knockout. A pal uses it and swears by it, as it fills a sonic slot most other synths can't quite reach. A respectable addition in a world often too cluttered with me-toos. PC users should check it out.

  6. Aargh, I need to fix a newbie mistake 🙂 Obviously the string based synth in Live isn’t Collision but Tension.
