Nice concept. Horrible name.
Fake analog, but it sounds great. Arturia seems to do this better than just about anybody.
It seems like a cheaper, knobbier version of the Venom. Im all for good sounding VA's getting cheaper, but ill stick with my venom because the way it's structured allows for new, unique sounds, rather than emulations of old synths.
That being said, if i had seen this a few months ago, it totally would have taken the place of my micron.
This sounds completely different than the Venom to me.
Much more analog sounding than the Venom. The Venom sounds good, too – just not especially analog.
Looks cool, but REALLY interested in spark (and how it compares to maschine)
Not really the same as the Venom since you need to have your laptop along with the Arturia keyboard. Venom and Micron actually make sounds, the Arturia kbd here is just a controller.
Got the software version of this. Large library of great analog sounds, but don't expect too much editing capability: it's rather limited in that respect, unless of course you own one or several of their plugin synths (such as the Jupiter-8V that can be seen in the video: this is not included with The Laboratory!).
There are 4 parameters unique to each preset, controlled by the colored knobs. The parameters filter frequency, resonance, LFO Rate & Amount, Chorus and Delay Mix, as well as the parameters for the Filter and Amp Envelope (ADSR), are available in every preset.
You guys are loony. You hate the venom, but like this? This is like a romper with even less editing. It’s a preset box. Read the venom review on Matrixsynth. I understand you guys all thought it sucked just by noticing it only had four knobs or whatever. But with the editor the things an industrial beast. It has a million tricks. I’m dying to invert the base waveform from the modulation wheel while playing. Is not really VA it’s like something else. Hard to say… Anyway, this artiria preset garbage gets the thumbs up here? That’s crazy.
Who said anything about hating the Venom and liking this better? Did you actually read anybody else comments?
Based on the both company's official demos, Arturia's software does a much better job of analog emulation, but the Venom still does a great job of being an interesting sounding synth.
Neither are going to be anybody's dream synth, though, because of their compromises.
the video sucked
This appears to be the minimally-programmable "lite" version of their analog emulations. Not a rompler – it's their usual vintage analog simulations, but crippled so that you can only tweak existing presets.
The full, editable versions are much more expensive. I think they sound nice, but people here say they sound nothing like the originals. 😉
It was painful. Shame, since it looks like a nice controller for their V-series modules.
This is great for players who just want to find the right sound and play, not tweek knobs endlessly, but for the same reason it should come with a weighted 88-key controller, or, a least, with a 5-octave keyboard, like the one in the Origin, with the nice ribbon controller.
How about it, Arturia ?
other than site reviewers, blog comments pretty much show a universal dislike of the venom.
i think he was speaking in general of the synth community.
the venom is cool and hated. preset box here is apparently well liked lol.
