Moog Music has officially announced the Grateful Dead Expansion Pack for Animoog, a new sound library that is based on the Grateful Dead’s live performance at the Carousel Ballroom on Feb. 14, 1968.
The pack features 82 Presets and 45 Timbres that were carefully extracted from the live recording, and then optimized for the Animoog’s Anisotropic Synthesis Engine.
Here are the details:
The Grateful Dead Expansion Pack
The Grateful Dead Expansion Pack is broken into three categories: ensemble, percussion and vocal sounds. In each case the timbres were extracted from individual vocal performances, percussion hits or instrument riffs performed during the Grateful Dead’s concert at the Carousel Ballroom 44 years ago. The pack allows musicians today to cre-ate dynamic soundscapes from the Dead’s rare and complex source harmonic content originally performed decades ago.
Here’s The Dead’s Mickey Hart checking it out:
Hart, who visited the Moog Factory on April 19, 2012 to test the development of the Grateful Dead Expansion Pack exclaimed, “Holy transmogrifica-tion, Batman… Amazing!” after hearing the Grateful Dead’s 44-year-old recordings trans-formed into sound design tools for artists.
Here are audio previews of the pack:

Hey, I have that bootleg (used to be a massive dead head)! Mr. Hart is sounds like he needs to floss his brain, though.
On a serious note, I’m still unable to access the moog store via animoog… I get a message that says “fetching”. Am I missing something obvious?
sounds nice. one question:
is the guy drunk or in his “normal” mode?
i´d like to see him debate with ozzie.
i remember that bootleg too. it has some pretty out there parts. I think his normal mode includes something from Dr. Hoffman. On a side note the dead were pretty early adopters of synths for a root based rock band. They had Pro 5s on stage when they were new and Jerry was all into midi guitar at one point…generally the fans hated the midi guitar but it was actually pretty cool.
His MIDI guitar noodling was, um, not exactly the high point of my many GD experiences….
I think he looks damn good for a 70 year old. Many people his age are less coherent and never even touched drugs, besides prescriptions.
