At the 2013 NAMM Show, one of the stranger things being displayed was the Soundwagon – a music toy described as ‘the world’s smallest portable vinyl record player’.
The Soundwagon a miniature VW bus that is also a self-contained record player. It’s battery powered and plays by driving around the grooves on LPs.
Here’s a demo of the Soundwagon in action:
See the Soundwagon site for more info.
BAD ASS! Gimmicky, but I love it. Just another reason to drag some 80’s vinyl to a party!
These are not new though, I saw one over a decade ago, however, it was a VW bug.
They are featured in the turntablism documentary Scratch.
“Get ready for a lot of fun and excitement!” – He-Man
I want to see somebody juggle beats on two of these.

These were available in Japan in the 90’s as the “Vinyl Killer”.
Voice in the back of the bus:
“Are we there yet?”
OOOOOOOLD

If you respect your precious vinyl, never use a soundwagon. If not then they are lots of fun.
For fun, with an old record, try spinning it on a pen whilst someone holds the corner of a very thin sheet of paper (e.g. a credit card receipt) into the groove. Now *that* is a small record player 🙂
Dr. Demento appeared on film using one of these at least twenty-five years ago
After all these years they are still nauseating to watch.
If you really like your records you will buy a proper record player. This is a toy for kids. Terrible, why do you report on such stupid stuff?
i have one of these i want to sell it is gold
Do you still have the “Soundwagon, the world smallest record player”. If so, for what price would
