This demo video, via perfectcircuitaudio, takes a look at the Oberheim FVS-1 Four Voice – a vintage analog synthesizer from the mid-seventies.
The Oberheim Four Voice features four of Oberheims SEM modules. These are basically independent synthesizers that can be programmed separately. This makes it more powerful than many four voice synths – but that power comes with the overhead of some extra knob-tweaking.
If you’ve used the Oberheim Four Voice, let us know what you think of it!
fun fact! : the Oberheim OB-1 was used heavily during sound design for the original star wars movie.. rumor has it thats where mr. kenobi got his namesake from
Another fun fact everyone should know: The ARP 2600 (sample and hold, duh!) was used for R2-D2’s iconic voice.
More fun Star Wars synth facts please.
In a cut scene, R2D2 has a conversation with his brother MS20.
Makes video overview of Oberheim FVS. Does not play polyphonically.
Indeed, worst demo ever. He does not play it polyphonically. There is an ever growing bunch of people who think Analog Synths can only make weird noises. Do you want to hear Oberheim 4 voice and 8 voice in action? Listen to Tangerine Dream’s Sorcerer OST.
Thanks Angelus! I am excited to hear!
Hard to trust Perfect City Audio, since not knowing what to do with this synth.
Over the years I have owned an Oberheim modular 8 voice, OB-X, OB-Xa and an OB-8. The modular 8 voice was a beast but nothing sounded like it. That, and the original Korg MS-20 I owned . I should have kept them both.
The recent Oberheim videos on synthtopia do not do justice to any of these instruments. I always traded my gear in and moved to a KX-88 controller with various rack mount synths and a Roland D-50. Traded all of those for the for the Motif series over time – Motif, Motif ES and Motif XS.
These days it’s a Kronos 88.
Cheers!
