Cakewalk has introduced ScratchPad – a performance loop sequencer for iPad.
Here’s what they have to say about ScratchPad:
Scratchpad was designed as a fun and easy way to make music on the go. If you are new to music apps or you want to start shaping your own songs ScratchPad is a great way to get started. Easily mix loops that come with ScratchPad or import your own loops using Dropbox. Advanced users can load their own loops and create an interactive way to play with their songs.
Here’s the official intro video:
Features:
- Scratchpad has 3 main effects on each of the 9 expression pads.
- Stutter, Tape Stop, and Scratch
- Columns have a global tape stop
- Expression pads have 2 play modes: Loop and One Shot
- 3 trigger types: Normal, Momentary, and Re-Trigger
- XY Filter Pad has both a HPF and LPF
- Bring in your own content from Dropbox
- Route to other apps using AudioBus
ScratchPad is available for US $4.99 in the App Store.
no midi…
The concept of this looks like an enhanced ‘Loopy’ or “Loopy 2” !
Loopy is advance recording app, ScrathPad is rubbish in comparison…
Loopy can record sound in very high quality using a plug in mic but this thing is just a preset loop player. Importing via Dropbox us a drag. The demo video is misleading.
Yawn, was expecting much more from the might of Cakewalk.
What a disappointing effort…
It’s a toy (and this demo song is like a nightmare)
Actually, it’s a solidly musical app. I’ve gotten better results right off the bat without menu hopping through somebody’s idea of an innovative touch interface experience. At the end of the day, when you actually want to make music, a clean, traditional interface such as this is more than welcome. I am glad to see Cakewalk getting on board the Apple side of things, as I always thought that Sonar was a great fill in for me when Logic went strictly to Apple and I was still on a PC. I do hope to see them implement more practical, expected features in the future as others have mentioned here: midi, IAA, whatever else I can’t think of right now. Thank you for a solid first foray into the iPad and Apple neck of the woods Cakewalk…maybe the recent acquisition by whatever that guitar manufacturer is won’t be the slow death that we all fear, regardless of brand loyalty!
