This video, via THUMP, is a profile of Simeon Coxe of pioneering psychedelic electronic dance music band Silver Apples.
“I think the future is really ahead of us,” notes Coxe, “You’re going to see huge leaps in terms of what we accept as music.”
Along with drummer Danny Taylor, Coxe created a new type of music, using found junk to create sounds that their audiences had never heard.
Though Taylor died in 2005, Silver Apples lives on. Thump caught up with Coxe at the 2013 Mountain Oasis festival.

Hello Mr. Lovecraft referencer. There is a seven minute version of Ruckzuck around, but I hadn’t seen this video. My favourite Kraftwerk track! Before they got rid of the lovely live drums and flute.
Lovefingers is one of my favorite songs.
A lot of EDM music sounds like the psychedelic rock of the 70’s. I’ve heard many producers say they get inflluenced by bands like Tangerine Dream and others from this era.
Nice little inspiring read… if you think about the most famous artists, they all have things in common. They were innovators and not copiers!
EDM is a relatively new term and if you think about any genre of music, they can usually be related back to each other. For example, Hip hop can be related to UK 2-step garage etc… Classical can be related to chillout or even modern ‘progressive’ and melodic house!
