Reader Amy Lee (Ani) let us know about this new video of synth pioneer Tom Oberheim, who was filmed demoing his brand new Oberheim Two Voice Pro and talking about his experiences in the world of synths and music.
Filmed at the SF-EMM monthly meetup at SAE Institute SF, in San Francisco on Oct 9, 2013.
Notice how he mentions something ‘bigger’ that he plans to release in the vein of the later Oberheims but minus the CEMs… Excite.
That’s the OBX he’s referring to. He’s mentioned it before. That would really be something if he remade that synth.
Not a single ****ing note!!
Sorry,I lied.I just scrolled through too quickly.Of course,I would give my left one for this 2 voice.
Good to see Tom back in the saddle. I wish I had space and dough for one of his creations in the flesh, but … I console myself with the Arturia iSEM emulation on my iPad.
There was an answer to “Why no sine wave?” question that he might have given for the less techie-minded in the audience – he saw the horrible complexity of a three order pure tone generator – and that is
“It’s a _subtractive_ synth. There’s nothing to subtract from a sine wave.”
and of course one can always notch out everything except the fundamental on the others. If one absolutely must.
Around 3:00 Chris Hülsbeck appears!!!
