Novation today introduced Launch Control XL – a new MIDI controller that they call ‘the ultimate controller for Ableton Live’.
According to Novation, the Launch Control XL helps you focus more on your music and less on your laptop, by providing 16 buttons, 24 knobs and eight faders, all of which integrate seamlessly with Live.
Here’s their official demo video:
Their second video, below, explains the setup:
Features:
- Hands-on control over Ableton Live
- Tweak your sound using 24 knobs with multicoloured indicators
- Precise control over levels with eight rugged faders
- Create your own control layouts, by freely assigning any control to any function in Ableton
- Plug straight into Mac, PC or iPad and start performing
- 16 multi-colour buttons for immediate track focus and key mixer controls
- Includes Ableton Live Lite software and Loopmasters sample collection
- Control MIDI-compatible iOS software via Camera Connection Kit
- Launch Control is powered via USB bus power
Release date and pricing are TBA.
This looks very tempting.. Even more so if it had push button encoders.. $2/300?
The promo video is so lame I lost all interest in that product.
Is one of these plus a Launchpad just the same price as a Push?
No, both of those are cheaper than a Push & have less functionality than the Push (RBG LEDs, velocity AND pressure sensitive pads, touch sensitive knobs, ribbon controller, foot pedal support, LED display panel). This is nice controller for those who like to have faders, but they lack motorized ones like the new Behringer series.
Awesome, wish I hadn’t just bought a Livid Alias8.. this is basically what I’ve wanted for years!
Looks handy as a master mixer for Live. I’d buy it if it was just less than $200.
i don’t see it costing much more than a launch pad, pretty sweet.. feel kinda chumped out picking up a launch control last month.
Yeah, I can’t see it costing much more than LaunchPad either. Will definitely snap one when released.
It’s on Sweetwater already for $199. Pretty nice. I’m getting one. 😀
As much as I like Novation’s synths, I’ll pass on this one. I had the Launchkey 61 — which this new product looks like it’s an offshoot of here– for a whopping month before I dumped it. Totally couldn’t stand the feel of the keys, as well as the buttons-knobs-sliders. Plus the lights weren’t responsive when you used custom settings (only worked with their templates). Even if they fixed that last one, I’ve been spoiled with my Livid Alias8. I’m still waiting for the Dubspot DS-1 to finally be released; I’ll gladly pay for the DS-1 (twice as much as this new Novation) for the better build quality and simple custom control assignments.
yep my launch key 61 was a turd.
How does the connectivity to a Launch Pad work? 2 USB outs or do you chain it? .One website said it has to be a LaunchPad S? I have a standard LaunchPad ( on the back CE NOVLPDO1). Will this work?
