I wonder how many people are really sitting down and putting this through its paces. Its a serious. modular, work-your-way-along-and-sample-your-high spots synth. Its a VCS3 and not an instant-grat workstation with 2000 sounds to step through. People extoll the virtues of modular, but its such full-frontal synthesis, I wonder a bit…. I don’t seem to recall any recent new bands like a Hawkwind offspring, making one of these sit up and bark. I got to fiddle with a real VCS3 once and that patch bay is a job for the Serious only. 😛 Is anyone here using one? If so, what up?
One here… and yes… it’s gorgeous!!!
Did you see the free synth patcher .com banks?
We had a lot of fun with it 🙂
I’ve had this for a while now and I’m still bamboozled!!
The sounds you can get are so unexpected and at times are in a league of their own. It’s my best synth app by far albeit for experimental type sounds. I keep going back to it to see what happens if I plug this here or turn this knob – isn’t this what synths are all about?
It is one of my favorite iOS music apps, for sure. A wonderful, wonderful recreation to work with.
My #1 app. Just love it. There is only 1 downside: I want a real VCS3 now. Anyone interested in a kidney?
What blood type are you?
J/k
I’m glad to hear that its a keeper. The EMS site has apparently been down for a while, but at one time, they still made new ones to order. Having played a real one that needed some work, let me warn you about buying one second-hand. You will REALLY need a specialist to bring it up to prime-time shape because of its boutique status. Even if its working fairly well, that patch bay is no casual off-the-shelf item. As they wear out, you can start getting cross-talk between pins in the older models. That leads to a semi-algorithmic experience, where you have little idea of what’s modulating what. Not good. Newer models improved the bay and it became less fussy, but make triple sure, even if you have the cash. It was great fun to fiddle with the real thing, but all in all, be very glad it can be had as software. In matching the hardware I’ve played to the software versions, I have to give high marks overall. Its being done well.
Are you interested in professionally created presets to be made available in your manager store or purchased by yourselves to be included as free presets within the app initial download?
Please let me know what you think, I’ve been a sound designer for well over 30 years and have most experience programming multi-osc subtractive synthesis synths and some experience with FM synths. I’ve included some of my original programming in the examples below.
Thanks for taking an interest and I look forward to your comments.
