Steinberg has released a major update to Cubase, featuring a ‘massive engine rebuild’ and more.
Here’s what’s new in Cubase Pro 8 & Cubase Artist 8:
First and foremost: Cubase becomes Cubase Pro. According to Steinberg, the name change reflects the 25-year evolution of Steinberg’s music production system.
- Both Cubase Pro 8 and Cubase Artist 8 witness a massive engine rebuild, which lets you run more instruments and more tracks.
- ASIO-Guard 2 improves the audio processing performance for instrument tracks and channels.
- Automation enhancements are key to Cubase Pro 8, giving you VCA faders and virgin territories.
- Steinberg has added render in-place to both versions for bouncing MIDI and audio parts in an easy way.
- Chord pads, Chord Assistant modes and MIDI tempo detection are introduced to the creative feature set of both Pro and Artist.
- The new Rack Zone provides a dedicated area for the MediaBay sound browser and VST Instrument Rack.
- Other improvements: The redesigned Track List and Inspector, the new plug-in manager, global workspaces plus improved windows handling on PCs make the lives of Cubase users easier. Then there’s the rejuvenated Quadrafuzz multiband distortion plug-in, the new Virtual Bass Amp, Multiband Expander, Multiband Envelope Shaper and many other effects.
- Groove Agent SE 4 now includes an acoustic drum kit, the Acoustic Agent, with 20 drum style patterns.
- The MixConsole has also witnessed feature additions and there’s a new version of VST Connect for remote recording over the Web.

Does it still do MIDI? ;-P
Chord Assistant and MIDI Temp Detection are not included in the Artist version fyi…
When will steinberg make a midi only sequencer that is stable and not affected by any background issues.
Steinberg some of us would pay good money to use your atari style sequencer again.
Check the synth market….great times for midi synths, dreadfull times to get a stable midi sequencer without a trillion bloatware screen details.
another costly / pointless / junk filled / incremental update that will no doubt fail to address the awful cubase workflow…?
I’m sorry Cubase, but you are so late to the party. Most other DAWS have had these features for years now.
Fantastic update, massive CPU utilisation drop is worth the upgrade fee by itself and all the other new features are just a cherry on top.
Love it 🙂
Is it just me or does Cubase seem like the ugliest DAW ?
its just you.
it’s definitely up there
virgin automation and vca faders are awesome looking.
That DAW looks like shit
Death to it!!!
Excited… Cubase is on a role!
Hey Frank, Michael and Cheese,
Somehow I think you’re the ONE person – TROLL, hiding behind all of these “names”…
Hopefully Moderators of Synthtopua can realise this as well and delete your crap.
For Cubase Artist there are a lot less new features as they make you believe:
No VCA faders, No Wave meters, no control link groups, No EBU metering, No Mixconvert, No automation system (including new Virgin mode), No new Multiband expander, Multiband envelope and shaper effect plugin. I understand there has to be some differences but come on, even the most wanted newd features like VCA is not in Artist version. So a lot of new features artist owners wont get, a real dead horse beating.
