Waves Audio is now shipping Cobalt Saphira – an advanced harmonics shaping tool that lets you add rich harmonics to your tracks in order to give them analog musicality, depth and “glue.”
According to Waves, Cobalt Saphira gives you an unprecedented level of digital control over different aspects of the harmonics you are adding:
- Edge and Warmth – for separately controlling and balancing even and odd harmonics
- 4-band EQ – for separately shaping the frequency spectrum of each type of harmonics
- Harmonics modes – seven different modes, with graphical representation so you can see the changes in harmonic structure
- Tape – five tape speeds for adding wow-and-flutter modulation in order to give your tracks extra musicality and depth
Here’s the official video intro:
Here are tips for using Cobalt Saphira:
Cobalt Saphira is available now, for Mac & Windows, with an introductory price of US $99 (normally $149). A demo version is also available See the Waves site for details.
is this a joke? no audio exampel at all, just talk
LOL…a harmonic plugin for the sausage fest that is EDM? LOL…
I was immediately curious if I could string together some other plug-ins that I already own to get the same basic effect.
I think a slightly over-driven tube will add odd-harmonics. But I don’t know what kind of process will add even-harmonics.
Kvr has a thread on that very question.
Add a DC Offset to your signal, or find a way to make it asymmetrical, before entering a distortion unit. This very simple process will wllow you to bring both odd and even harmonics. The former one just come from the distortion of a symmetrical signal, the second from the distortion of an assymetrical one. Then playing with the signal response of the distortion unit (using an overdrive, a tube sim, a saturator, etc…) will affect the exact energy distribution in the spectrum, and change the relative amplitude of these harmonics.
This is on sale for a pittance. It has odd/even controls, plus DC offset across three bands:

Just watched the demo and immediately bought. At $8.24 USD, it was a nice deal.
For the first time ever, you can put a filter before your distortion unit?
I think Waves ran out of ideas some time ago
Thanks for the comments. Very useful info, folks!
