This video, via Sonic State, features interviews and performance excerpts from an event celebrating the music of ‘Supermarionation’ composer Barry Gray.
The video, hosted by Gaz Williams, focuses special attention on a couple of the instruments used in the performances, the Ondes Martenot and the Dewanatron Swarmatron.
The Charles Hazlewood All Star Collective played the music of ‘Supermarionation’ composer Barry Gray (1908-1984) in St. George’s as part of the BBC 6 Music Festival in Bristol, with special guest vocalist Jarvis Cocker, Adrian Utley, Francois Evans and members of the Paraorchestra.
Gray is best known for his scores for Gerry Anderson’s marionette TV shows, including Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5. Gray made extensive use of brass and percussion in his scores, but also made frequent use of the Ondes Martenot and electronic sound effects.

Fabulous!
I wish I was a spaceman, the fastest guy alive,
I’d fly around the universe in Fireball XL5,
Way out in space to gether, conquerors of the skies!
My heart would be a fireball, a fireball
Every time I gazed in to your starry eyes!
