This video, via Andertons, features an overview and demo of the prototype of the upcoming Arturia MatrixBrute synthesizer.
The Arturia MatrixBrute is a programmable monophonic / duophonic analog synthesizer, outfitted with three ‘Brute’ oscillators, Steiner-Parker and ladder filters, three envelope generators, analogue effects and a matrix-style modulation matrix.
Pricing and Availability
The Arturia MatrixBrute is available for pre-order now, with a street price of about US $2,000.
Check it out and let us know what you think of the MatrixBrute!
How much for the clock?
Nevermind, it doesn’t work..
i will reserve my judgment until its been released and tested by people parting with their cash!!!!!!
I want to like this but won’t be sold until Arturia LOAD IT WITH PATCHES and I can get a feel for its possibilities. This “Its (still ) a prototype” nonsense is a PR disaster.
Well Arturia relies on all the pre-order buyers to finish testing their “prototypes”.
Then maybe..maybe…they patch it into a working unit.
I thought these videos were suppose to make me want to buy this synth.
Oh, my God how intensly boring it sounds, is this supposed to be a promo? Please finish it first, then do a promo. So far it sounds like a beefed up Microbrute, which is fine in its price range, but I certainly won’t flesh out 2K for that sound.
They spend most of the video demoing how brute oscillators and filters sound.
We know already….got one sitting here.
Show what this damn thing does different.
The only thing they show about the matrix is some dodgy patch of an lfo controlling the delay….
Ultimate analog mono synth IMO
You mean besides the MiniMoog?
Or the Seqeuntial Pro One?
Or maybe the Oberheim OB-1?
Or the Sub 37..
I mean beside one that you can buy new for sure
and maybe beside the old one as well but I don’t know at the moment
I am really glad that I ended up buying Dominion 1 instead of waiting for Matrixbrute. Dom1 is pretty ultimate to me.
It looks like 2,5 microbrutes and a wide beatstep.
What’s with these DUH videos focusing on the person speaking
Is the person speaking the synth?
Is the person speaking for sale ?
Funny thing is that in all the demos i ve watched of this synth, anybody has ever played something nice. All the sounds or sequences are always random and IMHO shit sounding. I would love not only to see someone showing me the undoubted tons of features this synth has but as well a good sounding patch….
I reckon i will have to test it myself to hear the potentials….till then i can’t really judge….
After all these years, The Packrat is still right:

Yawn
There is something about that filter sweep that made me stop the video then and there – it doesn’t seem smooth at all. Either the pot is dusty or the resolution on some D/A converter is too small. This reminds me of the filter sweeps you got from the Roland JX3P, which had 8-bit converters if I remember correctly. Definitely a feature to be honed before shipping the finished instrument.
Got to see this device live at NAMM, very excited about the modulation matrix feature, but for 2,000 i’d rather spend it elsewhere.
This is a good watch with Alex from SourceDistribution. It might prove more informative for some as it’s much more about the sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru2quYHKXp4
Arturia don’t seem to be very good with BIG products. Remember the Origin? (I think that’s what it was called). They just seem to be mostly annoying people now with these prototype ‘demo’ videos.
It looks to me they are mostly a software company that’s suddenly found itself right in the middle of a major _hardware_ release. They apparently had never done it before and have absolutely zero PR skills to handle it, just the enthusiasm. They need to create a proper PR department PRONTO.
I Hate those demos where the guy explains what is definitely written in the manual, rather than decently make you hear the sounds of the synth…
Please prepare some decent patches before starting to hit record on the camera.
This is detrimental for Arturia itself. If I was kind of a CEO, I would certainly rebuke a promoter like this…
“Build Quality is second to none…..”
Really?
Never seen a Moog? A Dave Smith? A Mos-Labs module? A Modal?
Those look like cheap rubber Microbrute knobs, which are ok on the Micro….
It takes a certain degree of gall and gumption for Arturia to tout their “build quality”. The very thing they are derided for along with releasing near beta level products to the market.
Really a shame to (so far) waste some great ideas with a half-baked product. I was lucky to offload my Origin without taking a loss, and before it developed issues.
Don’t get me wrong. I love my V Collection, and the Synclavier in particular. It’s good stuff.
I have to admit chuckling about the build quality thing. If only they put half of the build quality that my 002 has.
At the end of the day, $2k could buy some very nice eurorack modules, and yield far more powerful and interesting sounds.
I think Arturia should heed the advice from these comments. I feel like theres just too many of these brief overview demos by too many different hosts. It seems to be a common newish trend across the tech world. If all anyone sees for 6 months is basic stuff like this, it almost starts to look like just a device with a bunch of top shelf features and not a whole instrument. Not having any patches pre-made makes it look like that even Arturia are still at the first-test stage. A product like this deserves a roll out that includes actual sounds and not just “Wow look at this thing”. I’m sure they’re getting around to it eventually, but look, folks are getting ornery, give us some skronk or get off the pot.
Try this instead! https://youtu.be/ru2quYHKXp4?t=356 <3
Can we hear the dang synth please?!?!
This video is some Bull excrement.
I a a fan of Arturia and brute owner but I have to agree with most of these comments.
We just need to hear a dozen or so realy well made patches that demo how great this board can sound. So far we simply haven’t heard anything, the sound is more important than the features; it’s competing with sub 37 (lower cost, top brand, sounds great) and the elusive MFB Dominion 1 (amazing mono for a lot less money but never available) that’s tough competition…I think Arturia will need a street price closer to 1200 GBP
The people saying it sounds bad, listen to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00IBwDw49JA
What’s happening with your ears ? The brute are gorgeous… I think the sound is really appealing, very original, woody, raw, powerful, extremely organic. Joe Howe create a majority of his synth sounds with a brute synth : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J64_VMvzEQo
Give this a whirl for a better audio demo. https://youtu.be/ru2quYHKXp4
Is the only critic here is about presets?
Did you guys saw the demo of modulars mono synth?
For those who want a bit more of a deeper dive into programming this beastie, defo check this video too below – spend half an hour exploring it and making sounds and sequences. Much fun, as you might expect, it’s pretty amazing…crazy amount to explore.

I’ve played one of these for 30 min, I think it’s great. Why don’t they let musician play it? All those video they made are worthless..
I don’t get the analog craze.
I thought they would actually want to sell these things? Also, can you not mix in a feed from your desk? It sounds like it’s coming out of an internal speaker.
You know, with the Matrix, and presets, and all those CV outs, this would make an absolutely killer master controller for a big modular system. I’m shocked that everyone is overlooking this, and that Arturia is not pointing this out.
The CV on my microbrute blows.
The CV on my Beatstep blows.
You would hope it would be sweet but it won’t be.
Sure it sounds like it would be amazing for CV. But all the I/O’s are hardwired. They could learn a thing or two from the PRO 2, which mixes CV’s internally and allows routing anywhere among the 4 outs. I actually think they missed the boat big time by not having a dedicated CV matrix. I know you can work around it, but I’d rather have 4 amazingly configurable CV outs than the 12 they’ve decided on for you.
I also agree that this is a PR fail. nobody is playing any music on these demos and I can fucking read just like anybody else. This thing better be worth it. I’m not buying unless I get a no questions asked full 30 day return policy with no restocking fees, store credits, etc etc.
For some reason I’m really pissed off right now.
with brexit , modal synth prise will raise ( Customs charges , pound inflation … )…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru2quYHKXp4
here’s another. Sounds great to me. I have no plans to buy it, but I’m excited none the less.
No thanks Arturia. After the filter failed on my MiniBrute after only 7 months, and then saying they would replace it for $200. What a joke. I’ll take $2k and put it towards an OB6 or something I know will be solid, high quality and top notch customer service if need be.
For a little bit more than half its price, an Elektron analog 4 offers much much more … anyway, this is a nice synth, but way too expensive.
