MoMinstruments has released fluXpad, a sample-based groovebox /workstation with a unique approach to sequencing. In fluXpad you “paint” in your music with your finger, which leads to completely different results than a traditional sequencer with piano rolls or step buttons.
The app was developed by Mouse on Marsโ Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner, with developer Jan T V Falkenstein, who describe fluXpad as as “the first sample sequencer that fully functions by simply drawing the sounds.”
The y-axis of the canvas controls the pitch, while the x-axis controls the decay of the notes. The user can choose to quantize their notes and whether to limit notes to major or minor scales.
fluXpad Features:
- 6 melody sequencers where the user can paint melodies based on a sample of their choic
- 1 percussion/drum sequencer where one paints/taps the groove made of 7 samples of their choice
- Record mode: either paint the sequence (on the top) or tap the notes (at the bottom)
- Each sound has its own sampler settings with unique envelope, loop and start settings
- Quantize / unquantize functions for each sequencer or the whole pattern
- 7 patterns to jam with, for each preset
- Ability to record one’s own samples with the built-in microphone
- Import samples via iTunes or AudioShare
- “Huge” sample library with high quality sounds/kits made by Mouse on Mars and others
- Demo projects made by Mouse and Mars and others
- New projects/sounds available via In-App-Purchase
- Export /backup projects (including sounds)
- Audiobus supported
- IAA sync supported
- Ableton Link supported
- Can sync via MIDI to other apps, hardware
fluXpad for the iPad was released today on the iTunes AppStore at an introductory price of $7.99 US.

That puppet is disgusting.
Just bought fluXpad. This app is awesome! Pay no attention to the puppet behind the curtain. Have not seen anything like this. Very well thought out. Of course there is room for additional features, but what is does now is fun, musical, and useful. Connects with Audiobus, AudioShare, and midi. Recommended! Thank you.

No MIDI notes out right?
No Midi notes out yet. It’s not meant to be a step sequencer, to play other apps. The concept is, that it’s an instrument of it’s own. Nevertheless Midi notes out might come later with an update, as many people are asking for it
I would love to be able to sequence your Elastic Drums with this app!
Nice to hear. Why do you not sync them via Ableton Link? Elastic Drums is doing the drums and fluXpad plays weird Baselines and crazy pads on top, this I can imagine very well ๐
