Norwegian composer Koka Nikoladze let us know about his latest DIY creation, Koka’s Stepper Miniature – an electroacoustic synthesizer made of a single stepper motor.
The keyboard is made of metal screws and it senses capacitive touch. Attaching different objects, such as springs and office binders to a rotor, changes color of the tone and its texture.
“I was thinking of making it microtonal,” notes Nikoladze, “but then I said – ok! Twelve-tone screwboard is geeky enough!”
That is pretty awesome. Was it complex to get all those switches figured out?
That’s the coolest.
Soooo freakin cool.
You can’t go more analog than that.
For those who REALLY love analog…
that’s excellent!
Any open-source plans for this device?
