The Residents get my vote for being the strangest music group in history.
There might be other bands that are extremely bizarre, but none that have been making music – a term some would debate – as long, or as consistently bizarro, as The Residents.
If you’re not familiar with The Residents, they are an American conceptual music project that is made up of four anonymous artists. They are best known for their iconic image, of creatures with giant eyeballs for heads.
Over their careers, they’ve released dozens of wildly experimental albums, films, CD-ROMs & DVDs.
Eyesore: A Stab At The Residents was a 1996 tribute album to the group. It’s out of print now, but WFMU has MP3s of the album on its site.
