The Jahtari Korg Monotron Delay is a a mod that improves the controls of the effects unit and houses it in a Commodore C64 floppy drive case.
Here’s what Jahtari has to say about it:
If you’ve ever stumbled over one of the original Korg Montron Delays you can’t but help to admire the raw 1970s SciFi movie sound and overall concept: a dub siren and analog delay, all in one tiny unit – and for 40 EUR? What more can you ask for!
But its small size and budget-saving price definitely have their downsides: the knobs are ultra-flimsy and no fun to use at all, the batteries always seems to run out just during a set and it actually could have done with a few more simple extras, like a Resonance on
the filter.
It also comes with an input for using it as a normal delay via an Aux Send on the mixer, but that input distorts instantly when a little bass is in the game (like in every Reggae and Dub record) plus there’s no knob for adjusting the Dry/Wet mix, turning it pretty useless for that purpose
So the idea of the Jahtari editon was to take the potential of this little rudebwoy among delays and build it into something that can actually be used live and in the studio. Luckily the Monotron comes already prepared for some serious bending.
Features:
- a Trigger button instead of the ribbon controller that works also as switch, giving you two free
hands to screw around with the knobs - wave shape of the LFO (originally only triangle) can now be changed with a knob from | to / to /|,
unlocking a wealth of new FX sounds - in pulse mode, the wave shape knob now sets the pulse width of the LFO, adding more sounds
and texture - LFO can now be switched to modulate the filter cutoff and not only the pitch of the oscillator
- the filter now has a resonance knob, working up to self-oscillation. With the LFO modulating the
cutoff this adds an extra type of dub siren! - durable, nice-grip switches and big Moog-style knobs for true finger-twisting fun
- comes in an original Commodore C64 floppy case for proper vibes
- incl. power supply, no need to worry about battery life anymore

Fantastic.
so where is the Atari punk console in an Atari 2600?
Too expensive, charging 400 EUR for a unit that was originally 40 EUR. Did they improve any of the components? Is the audio quality that much better? I know theres the labour cost involved, and the additional knobs and case. But for that money I could buy a Strymon or Eventide pedal which have superb sound quality.
Yes expensive, but that is what it costs to do something like this to order. I had many people ask to purchase my modded Monotron, but adding in both time and parts ends up being around this much. So I just told people I am not selling. It would have to be produced in mass to lower the price, but that requires a large investment and risk. Here is my mod – https://www.synthtopia.com/content/2012/05/19/the-korg-megatron-monotron-mod/
This is not for someone who wants “superb” sound quality. It’s obviously a niche studio piece, and if I were ever to get refocused on dub, I’d be all over it.
It’s a neat project, but as a product to be bought and sold, -Yikes.
I do love my monotron delay.
It looks like a really well constructed mod. However, it’s really not that difficult to mod a monotron delay, even as a starter project. There’s loads of info out there online. I made mine into a Eurorack module, with very little previous soldering experience. Here’s a link to the details: http://ununseptiumwarehouse.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/eurotron-delay.html
Jack Tramiel would be honoured.
Ridiculously expensive
Great Mod, great sound! Fantastic:-)
World of synthesizers fills my soul with yummy wummy goodness. I love Korg. They awesome.
cool one man, nice job
if y´all think it´s expensive, just do it yourself or dont, but stop complaining.
that´s so unfuckinbelievably annoying.
you can buy a computer for that money with tons of cracked vsts, yeah, wow.
get over it 😀
