Avid today announced that it has updated Pro Tools for Apple’s new iMac Pro, making the DAW the “fastest, most powerful Pro Tools software for Mac, ever”.
The update makes Pro Tools optimized for macOS High Sierra 10.13.2, and introduces new video file support for post-production workflows. The latest version of Pro Tools also gains a major boost in performance with the new iMac Pro.
Pro Tools now enables more native AAX plug-ins within a session than ever before, enabling users to produce music with a greater number of virtual instruments and increase EQ, compression, and effects on their sub mixes.
Compared to Pro Tools running on a 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display (2017) with Core i7 processor, the update can run:
- Up to 36% more plug-ins on an iMac Pro 8-Core model; and
- Up to 62% more plug-ins on an iMac Pro 10-Core model.
Availability
Pro Tools 12.8.3 is available now.
Still the iMac Pro seems such overkill for music production.
