Ok, so this was definitely one of the better videos on this (that is in english).
I think it’s pretty good for what it is. As he explains, it’s the first software lineup to make its way into the hardware world. It does come with pretty much all of Arturia’s great synth software. So of course its going to need something along that line to run the software without recoding it completely (hence the other reviewer’s compute rin a box comment I suppose). Having the softsynths integrated and connectible as he demonstrates seems very powerful, and looks easy to deal with using the interfaces. Kinda odd that he couldn’t map some controls though, but I assume that will get fixed.
I don’t believe this is at all or should be viewed as a computer in a box. It’s a specific hardware-unit that integrates right along any other synth you have in a setup, I honestly don’t see it being any different than a Korg or such (but with better screen interface; god some of the nested menus on those are horrendous).
The price seems decent. It’s definitely not a Neko; this is a different beast; a dedicated sound module, not an all-on-one everything. This is also seems a good option for live shows since it has such a great lineup of synths, and should be pretty durable from what I’ve been reading of it. It definitely fits the bill for people who prefer using hardware and writing or performing on instruments as opposed to a computer interface mimimcking analog controls via mouse. No IRC or WWW to sidetrack you too. 😀
