This synth is my favorite monosynths of all that I’ve ever owned. It’s the closest to 1960s-1970s “old school analog” sound you can get right now. Think Roland SH-2 or SH-09. Very nuanced, rich and warm sound. And you can configure it in so many ways, it’s incredible for such a little box. This is honestly a no-brainer!
I couldn’t agree more with Artemiy – it’s a huge amount of fun crammed into a tiny volume. <3
I must agree as well. I love this synth!
Thanks for posting! 🙂
Totally agreed. The NYX sounds fantastic. For me, it was instant love.
A fantastic company. Great sounding instruments.
SO MUCH Nyx / Dreadbox love – I hope they’re seeing this! 😀
sounds great!
love my abyss and will definitely get more from dreadbox. they got it right. vintage tone with lots of character. and most important: fun! i programmed many synths but with the abyss i play
I really enjoy this slow approach to demonstrating synths. Thanks, Jyoti, for giving us time to listen to each sound and explaining clearly what you are doing to achieve it.
Love me some Dreadbox synths. The Nyx is luscious.
Does anybody have experience with both Nyx & Erebus ?
Or comment / pro/con / opinion on either compared ?
Thanks,
Mike.
well, no need to do that, i think erebus is discontinued..
No Erebus is still being sold, it’s Hades that was discontinued.
well, they announced that its discontinued last December. I believe its only what stores have left or something..

I never played with Erebus, I think the main pro of NYX compared to it is that you get not one but two filters (which also have HP mode, not just LP), and also not three but four modulation generators, plus there are many ways to configure oscillators/filters/modulators and the latter is something too many people underestimate. Compared to Erebus, NYX is effectively two synths in one.
Oh yes and NYX has osc 2 as a patch source, so you can do osc 2>1 FM and filter FM. Huge deal.
Thank you Jyoti for your in-depth demonstration! Such a seductive little synth. I’ve just managed to acquire the discontinued Erebus and i feel sooo lucky. Now i have to save up for Nyx! I will be broke that’s for sure 😀
Can’t wait to see Dreadbox + Polyend cooperation fruit called Medusa, not too many leaks yet, but from what I’ve heard from NAMM 2018 videos it might be really interesting and quite unusual in compare to what Dreadbox released up to date. Dreadbox sounds ridiculously good thou, don’t know bout Polyend.
I bought it yesterday!!!!
Ended up playing until half 2 in the morning cause I could not stop.
This thing sets a mood like nothing else I own.
