MP3it calls itself a future information distribution system, and a free music experiment. It is a high-concept free music site! Does the world need a high-concept free music site?
The site is part of the Experiment Network, and takes a philosophical attitude to free music sharing. “We have very few tools to perpetuate human interaction. We, however, do believe that a very powerful tool is music. Music has many assets which communicate personal ideas, cultural ideas and a wide variety of feelings*, emotions* and much more advanced concepts.”
The site looks cool, but is tough to navigate. For example, the mp3’s are organized by artist in alphabetical order only. There’s no index that lets you browse by genre, ratings, tempo or newness. If you take the time to sample some of the work, though, you’ll find some fairly weird stuff.
