One of the pioneers of ambient electronic space music, Steve Roach has been creating innovative soundworlds for nearly thirty years. His work explores meditative moods through the use of electronic instruments. His music often features sequences, and repetitive structures that slowly evolve.
His work is influenced by the music of Berlin sythesists of the 70’s, such as Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream. He’s been very prolific since his first major work, Structures from Silence. He frequently collaborates with other ambient, electronic, and new age artists, including Michael Stearns, Robert Rich, and Michael Shrieve.
His site features an extensive discography, and excepts from his work. There are half a dozen streaming-audio stations that feature concerts and retrospectives of his work. He also has a small store that sells work limited-edition works directly from him.
