At the recent 2005 NAMM show, Mackie announced a redesigned SR Series monitor range. The new SR Series, two- and three-way loudspeakers, offer large-format sound, robust Baltic birch cabinets, and integrated no-hassle active electronics, while retaining all the simplicity of the popular SRM 450.
Like the high-output, high-definition Mackie SA Series loudspeakers also introduced at NAMM, the SR Series loudspeakers feature completely integrated active electronics that eliminate the need for external amplifiers, crossovers or processors. The SR Series’ internal circuitry provides precise electronic crossovers, level protection and phase alignment.
“With the new SR Series loudspeakers, our goal was to provide those looking to step up from portable active PA speakers with the higher output and authority of larger wooden cabinets, while allowing them to benefit from the easy set-up and operation associated with integrated, active electronics,” stated SR Series Product Manager John Boudreau. “The new SR range accomplishes this, while maintaining a price well within reach of most musicians.”
There are three new models in the SR Series line including the 15-inch two-way SR1521z ($999 MSRP), the dual 15-inch two-way SR1522z ($1499 MSRP) and the 15-inch three-way SR1530z ($1299 MSRP). All three models feature robust cabinets constructed from 18mm Baltic birch plywood and pressure-injected structural resin that work together to give the SR Series enough “knock” to win over any audience.
The SR1521z is a two-way loudspeaker that features a horn-loaded, 1.75-inch titanium compression driver with optimized symmetric phase plug, and a 15-inch low-frequency woofer with high temperature voice coil. Onboard amplifiers provide 300W RMS to the low-frequency driver, and 100W RMS to the high frequency-driver. The SR1521z delivers a peak SPL of 130dB @ 1kHz/1 meter, and a frequency response of 40Hz to 20kHz.
Like the SR1521z, the SR1522z is a two-way loudspeaker that also features a horn-loaded, 1.75-inch titanium compression driver with optimized symmetric phase plug. The SR1522z features a pair of 15-inch low-frequency woofers with high temperature voice coils that provide an addition 3dB of output over the SR1521z for a total of 133dB @ 1kHz/1 meter. The onboard amplifiers provide 400W RMS to the low-frequency drivers, and 100W RMS to the high frequency-driver. The SR1522z delivers a frequency response of 43Hz to 20kHz.
The largest model in the SR Series range is an updated version of Mackie’s popular SR1530. The new SR1530z is a 15-inch three-way cabinet that features a 1.75-inch titanium compression driver with optimized symmetric phase plug, a 6-inch high-output mid-range transducer, and a 15-inch low-frequency woofer with high temperature voice coil. Onboard amplification provides 300W RMS to the low frequency, 100W RMS to the mid-frequency driver, and 100W RMS to the high-frequency driver. The SR1530z delivers a peak SPL of 126dB @ 1kHz/1 meter and a frequency response of 38Hz to 20kHz.
Additionally, the SR1530z benefits from an optimized wide-dispersion WaveFrontTM horn design–a sophisticated on-piece horn that blends the output of the mid- and high-frequency drivers. And unlike typical mid/high horn designs with a WaveFront horn, the high-frequency section fires slightly downward into the six-inch mid-range dispersion pattern–creating a focused, single wave front with excellent phase and power response characteristics. The resulting 90 x 40 dispersion pattern provides open, natural sound for the entire audience, even at very high output levels.
The new SR Series loudspeakers will begin shipping to Mackie dealers in Q2, 2005.
