You’ve seen them teaching DJ-ing lessons in more than 1500 YouTube videos.
Now for the first time ever DJ Tutors Brian Redd of the USA and Johnathan (a.k.a. Ellaskins) Lewis of Wales will unite to present a face-to-face DJ convention/workshop, where they will share their knowledge of gear and techniques live and in person. In keeping with their tutoring philosophy, the event will be free of charge to all who attend!
The 2008 Practice & N-Joy convention will take place on Sunday January 27 and Monday January 28 in Milwaukee. The main event, for ages 21 and over, will be held at Hot Water Nightclub (818 S. Water St., Milwaukee, WI 53204) from 7:00 pm-2:00 am on January 27. It will feature hands-on tutorials on some of the hottest pro DJ gear, including American Audio’s revolutionary SDJ-1 dual SD card player. Attendees will get a chance to meet DJs from around the world, and can sign up to spin 15-minute sets of music of their choice.
Prior to this event, at 6:00 pm January 27, there will be a meet ’n greet/tutorial, open to all ages, at Joey Buonas (500 N. Water St. Milwaukee, 53204).
The Practice & N-Joy convention will wrap-up the following day with DJ Tutor School, an all-age workshop held at Charlie B’s (2645 Main St., East Troy, WI 53120) on Monday January 28 from 2:00 pm-7:00 pm or later. DJs will be able to work with a variety of pro equipment and talk shop with their peers.
“It’s a chance for DJs to get together, swap ideas, and learn from each other” said Redd, who will be meeting his Welsh video collaborator Ellaskins in person for the first time. The duo formed their trans-Atlantic partnership about a year ago, after Redd saw Ellaskins’ DJ Tutor videos on YouTube and decided to make a few instructional videos of his own. He showed them to Ellaskins, who liked them and suggested that the two partner up, with Redd becoming “DJ Tutor USA.”
Like their YouTube tutorials, all of the Practice & N-Joy events will be absolutely free. “You can just come in and hang,” said Redd. “That’s my whole mission statement for everything I do on YouTube. I never want to charge anyone anything to share information.”
